I bet that public-school, matron-fixated weirdo judge took a few quid for that decision.

Unbelievable.

Does anyone have a book of UK law I can borrow?

I'm not sure what is legal and what isn't.

I know right from wrong, but that and the law are two completely different things technically.

Profited from stolen goods.

So does Google.

I assume that if a picture of a naked five year old is posted on the internet along with an Google sponsored internet ad then the founder of Google should go to jail for distributing lewd pictures of underage children?

Nah, thought not!

The other thing about this: all those businesses who paid for advertising space on TVShack...when are they getting a call from the law for being complicit in this monstrously criminal act?

Extradited for somethig like this. What a doormat this place is.

*shakes head*

BBC NEWS said:
Richard O'Dwyer, 23, set up the TVShack website which US authorities say hosts links to pirated copyrighted films and television programmes.

...

The case was brought by the US Customs and Border Protection agency, which claims that the TVShack.net website earned "over $230,000 in advertising revenue" before US authorities obtained a warrant and seized the domain name.

His MOTHER should of been asking how her son got involved in BREAKING INTERNATIONAL TRADE LAW (regulated by the WTO) on such a ground scale.

And then expected to not face the consequences...

RICOH LAW

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racketeer_Influenced_and_Corrupt_Organizations_Act

Don't be so certain that other people won't be getting knocks at their door

i.e. those receiving the money

However, the statute is sufficiently broad to encompass illegal activities relating to any enterprise affecting interstate or foreign commerce

http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=...ommit copyright infringement and rico&f=false

See page 66.

If it gets proven that this was a criminal conspiracy under RICO that they were conspiring to commit copyright infringement - which is essentially what is alleged. The Student is in for some MAJOR jail time on any conviction. (up to three years)

This is why the British judge COULDN'T say no to extradition since this RICO law is essentially treated the same as a some mobster hit man who's committed murder - in the eyes of the law.

This is no different to a European Arrest Warrant. Often used to chase down Paedophiles. So why this woman thinks because he's a British citizen her son's above the law is beyond me?

It would be the same in reverse and although the US hasn't ratified the same extradition treaty in reverse - yet - because it's treated so seriously in the US, its guaranteed that the person would be extradited.

Oh and I'm British!

PS. Because the website earned in excess of US$200,000 also this also qualifies the US Government to prosecute not only under RICO, any possible sentence on conviction would be the same....

RICO, Criminal Conspiracy to commit copyright infringement, Money laundering ...

He's gone through some major criminal laws there.
