...at the start of the Rugby Union Lions tour, I wonder what a footy team based on the same criteria might look like; England; Scotland, Wales, and all Ireland. Here's a slightly biased starter for 10;

Hart
Coleman, Jagielka, Jones, Baines
Walcott, Gibson, Wilshire, Bale
Rooney, Lampard.

...no reds, no jocks but I can't think they would break in with the exception of Johnson. Absolutely don't undermine Stevie Gee La but I genuinely he would only get a subs spot. I've had a few pints, so may have missed an obvious but what are your views?

..is right, but when you consider the other nations there's not an awful lot to go on. Bale is the obvious one but not much more.

Spot on, besides England didn't win. Jonny Wilkinson won that World Cup. The most negative team I've had the misfortune to see win the World Cup.
