Most people believe the Premier League is best league in the world. Everyone is talking about Everton getting a new manager and most of the names are Spanish, Portuguese, etc. I looked up the top coaches https://www.clubworldranking.com/ranking-coaches This is the top 25 and not a Brit to be seen. Not English, Scottish, Irish, Welsh. Historically we have had Ferguson, Dalglish, etc. Even now we have Rodgers, Howe, Dyche, Lampard, Wilder, Bruce - Hodgson, Allardyce - even those guys are as young and as good as most of the names on this list. Is it a fashion thing? I personally would have Rodgers, Howe or Dyche - and Wilder (who may be a specialist at Blades) over most of these names on the list. Pep is good. Klopp? He's good, but inherited some great players - and is lucky:-) Thoughts?

When was the last time a British coach was at the forefront of footballing innovation? It’s all coming from European/South American coaches these days, I think we’re just about getting out of the dark ages of 4-4-2 and sticking the big bloke up front personally. Maybe in a few years eh?

Who was the last British coach to successfully export their methods outside of the English League and actually integrate with the culture they were working in (or just, let's be honest. learn the language)?

potter and hodgson

not sure if potter learned the lingo

Fair shout on Potter and Hodgson too.

It seems a vanishingly rare breed, however, when you look how many foreign coaches have top jobs in the English league, why are ours so unmotivated to look abroad? Players too (although that seems to be changing)

It goes beyond football in my experience, most sports the uk have an institutionalised mistrust of innovation and flair

We invented it ffs, we don't have to learn anything new...that Hungary thing in the 50s was a fluke.
Brexit means brexit.
