To pass you need 75% (17/24) ; some tricky questions amongst them, I stumbled to 21/24. I could well imagine a large minority of the population might fail the test.

22 but have to admit there were at least 4 lucky guesses. Who needs to know how many countries are in the Commonwealth, how many were granted independence in 1947 or which word derived from Norman?

I work for the local council so quite often see new British citizens receiving their 'certificates'. Their pride in their fine achievement is quite inspiring.
