From a purely selfish basis, I should belol, but I didnt realise what a pickle they were in till last week or so.

It is actually a real shame. Some of their fans I know are brilliant lads. And they are moving to a new stadium next season as well.

...always thought Bristol should have a higher representation in football. Massive City but it's never really ignited there, despite a few close encounters and giantkilling acts. Was sad that Rovers went out of the league.

If you lived down here Eggs, there is something in the water. And rugby doesnt help. All the schools play it from 11. Grammers, public, and comprehensive schools, all feeding into a strong local league, then into Bristol and Bath.

Try and think of more than a handful of really good players who have come from the area. There arnt that many, and of the few that have made it, nearly all of those went through Rovers, ironically.

Yeh, me too.

Due to not being represented in the top division for however long it is, you find most there are Liverpool or Man Utd fans.

Ironically, both local sides have a decent fan base. When a massive game is on that is. You see PL fans, obviously, but the locals, as in born there, generally follow City or Rovers.

.....you're right, Roydo, hardly a hotspot for talent. What type of crowds could City expect if they hit the big time?

They took 45000 to wembley for the play off final, and before that 50000 to freight rover finals.

But these days, the 30k stadium they had plans for would probably sell out for the top 7-8 sides only. Thing is, the catchment area is huge, so if they made it, and stayed around, then maybe that would increase. Bit like it did with Wigan, Hull, Stoke etc etc.

Owned by a billionaire fan as well ffs.

I've got a mate in work who is a Bristol Rovers fan. They're starting to build the stadium this summer, in time for the season after. He was saying that it's over 20K! In the Conference!

The season after is it? The plans look ace for the stadium, but they would never get 20000, even in the Championship. Not regulars anyway.

I have friends in Bristol and know what you are saying is true, some of the people I have met have 'close' second teams they loyally follow which tended to be Liverpool and Man Utd.

One Bristol City/LFC fan wouldn't stop talking to me about Liverpool's great sides in the 70's/80's despite knowing I was an Everton fan. So I started talking to him about then Bristol Rovers player Rickie Lambert and how we went to school together etc. He soon went away. He was a "The Sun" reader as well.
