At least 242 on board a plane that has crashed into a residential area after taking off from Ahmedabad airport in India, en route to Gatwick.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner plane, impeccable safety record. Going on one of those myself on Sunday.

Fingers crossed some managed to survive but looking like a major tragedy.

Long haul flight, just took off, full of fuel. Terrible. Likely the casualties being shown being taken away in ambulances were on the ground.

My best mate is a pilot and he said the flaps weren't extended.

Apparently they needs to be fully extended to take the weight of the plane.

Someone's cocked up big time.

Careful anyone looking this up on Social Media as there are some pretty horrible vids/pics doing the rounds. Some proper ghouls sharing that stuff around.

….local police are now reporting that unsurprisingly there are no survivors from the flight. I suppose it’s now a matter of understanding the collateral damage, dreadful term when it comes to deaths on the ground.

Lots of ‘experts’ suggesting the ‘wing flaps’ looked in the wrong position and the wheels should also have been up.

Head of the Commonwealth, and to be fair (and I'm no royalist BTW), he does have long-standing relationships with India, he backs a number of charities and I believe India will be his next state visit.
