Breakdancing (circ..1986-90)

That's right.... Breakdancing. Now a lot of you lids on here are way too young to remember this craze going on but, if like me, you were a hip young member of your own crew, carried a double deck beatbox ( also known as a ghetto blaster, amongst other things) , a rolled piece of kitchen Lino, wore Taccini/walker/Nike/Rikki/NaffNaff,Pony trainers (pony the make, not pony trabs).... And danced battles on other crews turfs..or uprocked as it was known.... Then you'll know how ace it was. What I'm after is,, what were your favourite moves ? What could you never do ? ....basically your memories of a fantastic era..... Personally I could do dem turtle spins for hours and could bodypop like a black Michael Jackson.... Reminisce away.

It was an age thing mate.... I wasn't born til 75 so when I was about 12-15 was my era.... I know it'd been going on for years before like.... Still....great times.

Never been able to dance so break dancing for me would invariably involve a cast.

Proper boss watching lids that can actually do it though.

Some New York soul singer was taken to a club in early 80's to be shown 'a new kind of dancing' and apparently said "are you kiddin me, I go singing in a club in Wigan, England and they've been doing this for years." ---- true story.

For me, that whole era was about buying cassettes at the swap meet that were obviously jarg dubs...songs were on the wrong side or listed in the wrong order etc. Makes me laugh about the RIAA's fit about MP3's...

Off topic slightly but i told a german exchange student in college i could spin on my head and break dance and he spent the rest of the year trying to get me to do it lol

I rented a video on how to break dance back in 85. It didn't work and my Mum told me off for practising back spins on the kitchen table. After that I got into Iron Maiden.
