I´m down in Rio for the England match next weekend, and took in Vasco de Gama v Portuguesa in Seria A last night.

What a pile of wank the standard of football was. Awful first touch, poor control all over the park and some shocking, wayward shooting/crossing in the final third. I expected a display of football sexiness, but it was all a bit meh.

The atmosphere was boss, though. Drum beats throughout, some weird percussion instruments and loads in the main blocks all dancing non-stop to it, waving massive flags and stuff above their heads. Quite hypnotic really, and when Vasco (who won 1-0) scored it went bananas. Superb stuff, despite the football being underwhelming.

Oh well, time to hit the beach again. Have spent the last 2 days on Copacabana (already sunburnt) and its ace. All the locals fellas playing their beach football thing, or football-volleyball, and the birds deffo all wear thongs. Not seen one normal bikini - all about the thongs. Saying that, the quality of the snatch has also been underwhelming. There are some stunners out there, but easily outnumbered by what you´d call Lilt Girls.

Off to hit Ipanema beach now. Here~s hoping the standard of birds is better on there.

Well in mate. Got any pictures you could post? I know what you mean about feeling let down with the standard football. I watched some French Ligue1 in January and the standard was shocking.

Enjoy the beach mate!

Vasco V Portuguese is like going to see Stoke V Norwich and saying the Premier League is gash.

Santos, Sao Paulo, Internacional, Palmeiras, Flamengo are the bets teams at the moment - if you get a chance watch one of their games and come back to me.

Be careful on the beach...

I used to live in Salvador and I'd watch Bahia in the 2nd Division. The football was so slow and every pen was chipped down the middle but the atmosphere was electric.
