Thoughts? I was all for resigning him before and a little after the WC but now I'm not so sure it was a good idea. Its not that I don't think he's a good coach its just that its pretty apparent that he didn't really want the job and wanted to go to England. I've never really seen a coach have success when he's taking a job not because its available but b/c it was the best option he had.

That being said I don't know if Klinsmann would do well here. For all intensive purposes he also got kind of lucky at the WC with Germany. The German national team was terrible in the run up in 06 and they may have not made it past the group stages if they didn't have home field. Plus the USMNTs problem wasn't scoring goals or lack of excitment, it was defensive lapses. Not shoring up the D is what doomed him at Bayern. I do think there are a handful of players who could benefit from having Klinsy though. I think Bornstein could be one of our best players in Klinsmann's system. Holden and perhaps Torres could have benefited as well.

Due to lack of money he wouldn't finish as high as MON but I actually think he would have done well at Villa. They play the kind of counterattacking footie that the USMNT plays. However being American if he wants to go to Europe he will probably have to cut his teeth in the Championship. Sadly if Sven did what Bradley at the world cup (which is pretty much just do what was expected of the team) multiple clubs would idiotically be against each other for his services.

I don't mind it, a second WC cycle is tough though.

Klinsmann wins in this too, as he gets four more years of deification without really accomplishing a whole lot.

I think if the US was serious about getting a name coach, they should go all out for a Hiddink or someone of that ilk. I obviously don't know if he'd be interested, but there are far more qualified men to lead the squad than Klinsmann.

Hiddink would probably be one of the few foreign coaches I'd like, despite the fact his tactics almost cost the Aussies in 06. He's had so much exp coaching teams with the same talent level as the US that he could probably do well here.

Klinsmann isn't bad but I don't see where all the love comes from. He's had 2 gigs, failed at one and for the other: taking Germany at home to 3rd place = roughly getting the US to the round of 16.

On the other hand if Low wanted to take over I'd sign up for that in a heartbeat.
