One of the episodes, with Michael Angelis and Julie Walters, was filmed in a house up our road. My mum wouldn't let the BBC use our house because she didn't like Alan Bleasedale "too much swearing".

Yosser: I've been around me, Saudi, Nigeria, The Shetlands..

Loggo: oh aye Yos what's the Shetlands like?

Yosser: it's cold and full of ponies.

I think it's a bit dated now, some of the accents are woeful too, but it's pretty good programming from a bygone age.

The scenes at the Albert Dock just shows how far we've come as a city since that time.

One Summer is a good watch too.

One Summer was excellent ,One of the lads in it is now playing the governor in the walking dead and has done really well for himself.

"I'm desperate father, don't call me father call me Dan, I'm Desperate Dan". Yosser was a classic character, gis a job. He was willing to give anything a go even if he was crap at it, he eventually ran the Titanic into an iceberg.

Yosser's was indeed a tragic story tinged with some great comedy.

but before he crashed the Titanic he was actually King Theoden of Rohan in Alan Bleasdale's fantastic "Lord Of The Rings" trilogy

Yosser character was brilliant writing and acting, if they both didn't get major awards for their efforts something is seriously wrong. And you're spot on with the tragedy/comedy thing. A man on the edge of his sanity, battling to stay afloat and keep his family together. I know it was only fiction but it was so true to life.
