Must be a few people on here who climb? Personally only ever done indoor bouldering. Would love to eventually do some alpine climbing but it’s a long way off.

Anyway - thread to discuss all types of climbing, indoor and outdoor. Share your experience and stories!

Must be some good outdoor climbing near you?

My advice would be find an indoor bouldering wall and after a few sessions, if you like it, get some shoes. Easy to get into. No need for a partner and very social.

Yeh I like the idea because I can do it solo. Loads of people do it outdoors in the Lakes but tbh I’m scared of heights! lol feel more comfortable indoors with the mats and stuff

That’s exactly it. It’s great as part of a group but you can go alone and it’s still great. Brilliant workout too. Only thing I’d say is (if I remember correctly) you’re fairly tall? I am and lots of the ‘problems’ are set by people who are of average height. Can become a bit frustrating.

Yeh I’m 6’5”. Always thought it would be an advantage for longer reaching haha.

It’s when you start spending hours staring at the walls, playing monologues in your head that you need to worry. Climbing is fine.

I work as an outdoor activities project worker with young adults in care

Sent some huge 5cs in my time.

Used to take the kids to the wall semi-regularly before lockdown, great fun. Bouldering room and then belay them on top rope stuff. Id usually have a few desperate clambers up the auto-belay before my arms fell off.

Only thing was the kids would get mentally tired in a session quite quickly, which made it feel a bit expensive. Its prob excellent value for climbers going hard for hours, mind.
