This is amazing:

"Making up quotes, lying to your party leader, wanting to be part of someone being beaten up - you're a nasty piece of work aren't you?" - that has to be the best question put to a London Mayor ever.

It was like something off 'The Thick of It'.

Made up. He's the most dangerous of all politicians on the scene at the moment.

Has done well to portray himself as bumbling, patriotic, eccentric Boris. Good ol' Boris.

He's a lower class hating [Poor language removed] and if needs as little influence as possible in any government of this country.

He's a dangerous individual. People fall for the idiot persona and think he's a great 'lad'. Another one of the bullingdon club bullies.

Haha, seems like his 'Eccentric' approach to become a popular party leader has backfired. As for his real bent, just read his Spectator stuff :)

I always feel a tinge of sympathy for people getting hammered over phone calls as calls and texts can be hugely misinterpreted and I've certainly said stuff that could be read differently , as for lying about having an affair to be fair that sort of goes with the territory doesn't it ?

Those two things could probably be used against me however I've never sought political office nor do I have aspirations of being the leader of one of the more powerful/influential nations in the world so I imagine nobody would really be interested in my behaviour in these areas.

In my opinion if you want to stand for office you have to accept the possibility that your dirty laundry will make it into the public domain, I also think its pretty clear boris is far from the bumbling charming eccentric he'd have you perceive him as.

This is precisely right, and if I could give rep/thumbs I would. I genuinely worry for the future of my kids if this man ever comes into power in this country.

Hardly surprising that politicians are not the most upstanding of people is it?

Given the way journalists have behaved over the past few years though it seems rather odd to see this kind of thing. People in glass houses and all that, or another way, let he who is without sin cast the first sin.

Oh my, that is fantastic.

Eddie Mair doing journalism the BBC was known for once upon a time. Top stuff.

Is that really journalism? Those revelations are years old. The false quotes were from his first journalism job post university in the 80's. The journalism beating up story was from 1995, and the Michael Howard thing was in 2004.

So the journalist was digging up well trodden stories from no earlier than 9 years ago. Proper journalism would surely have meant un-earthing something a bit more recent? If he's such a nasty piece of work it surely wouldn't have been hard.

I mean most of those stories came out during his stint on Have I Got News for You nearly a decade ago. Excuse me if I don't think the interview worthy of a Pulitzer.
