Just ordered a load of books. the good people of amazon make a small fortune off me, and its an addiction that's getting worse. It works out quite cheap as I always buy second hand unless its cheaper new. I can never order one book when six intrigue me. Anyone else got a online retail addiction?
I've ordered Philip Roth's The Plot Against America, Franzen's Freedom, A load of Irvine Welsh as I never got round to reading him (and I'm trying to cut down on my American authors), some Nabakov (as I still hadn't got round to reading him either), Chuck Palahniuk "Fight Club", Celinés Journey to the ends of the night, American Psycho by Brett Easton Ellis (more US stuff), If this is a man by Primo Levi (for my holocaust obsession).
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides, Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood and for some fun I ordered The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear by Walter Moers - wrote for young addults but its meant to be good.
I also ordered the earthsea collection by Ursula Le Guin, as I remember reading them spellbound as a kid. A nice slice of escapism that I can slide into like a well worn pullover.
Anyone read any of these?
What kind of books are you people reading? And why the hell do people read books from an Oprah Winfrey list? Surely one of the greatest pleasures of reading is deciding which books you want to read in the first place (as much as a recommendation from a friend can be good).
