Hence why I ask as I found it hard not to like the guy for whatever reason...I think because he seemed to have a bit of piss and vinegar in him but, as always, there's differing opinion. Just interested in the general vibe on him from those that went through his time with the National side.

I wanted him out in the mid 80's mate. Clough should of had the job and if not him then Kendall.

Its a totally pointless arguement, but what ever, but I dont think Clough would have got England players playing for him, in the way he did at Forest and Derby. But it would have been entertaining though.

Only Newcastle manager I've ever had time for. From a nice guy like him to the likes of Alan (Mars Bar) Pardew. Sums up that club perfectly.

His comment on football sums up how we manage to still feel the way we do about the game and your team despite all the stuff that surrounds it:

"What is a club in any case?

Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it.

It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes.

It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city.

It’s a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love."
