He was without doubt an extremely talented comedian / gag writer, along with Ronnie Barker who probably gets more plaudits due to his sitcom stuff. Both amazing, we were lucky to have them.
Les Dawson was another top funny man, good call CelsOne of my favourite comedians/funnymen, along with Les Dawson, Tony Hancock, and Eric Sykes.

Bob Monkhouse done a show when he knew he was dying, it aired on tv and was named something like ‘Beyond the grave’Not sure if I'm misremembering, but I kind of recall seeing a holographic Royal Performance of Les Dawson a few years back.
Seen him at Butlins late 1970’s, he was hilariousIs being replayed on BBC4, it's easy to have a pop at him but he told some decent gags
"when I told people I wanted to be a comedian, they laughed, now I am a comedian, they're not laughing now"
Went to see Frank about 36 years ago at Babbacombe theatre there was only about 20 people in the audience but he still put on a great show, very professional and really funny, full of energy.Frank Carson, saw him on the play house. Stood there for 90mins reeling off rapid fire 1or 2 liners...you know - actual jokes, not monologues about modern life, however wittily observed they maybe.
That speed of thought and depth of memeory is why tv hire even 3rd rate comedians to be game show hosts
Came over on the gameshows as a bit smarmy but he was a brilliant comic live and his final performance was sad but what a way to go out getting a standing ovation Fromm fellow comedians who must be the hardest crowd to please.Had the pleasure of meeting him when I worked at Butlins Metropole Hotel in Blackpool. He was doing a charity gig between Xmas and new year . Served him a drink before he went on . Had a pleasant chat with him , and he came across much nicer than the other so-called " stars " I met .
If only there was a thread called 'Bob Monkhouse's last gig' hey @Kurt lolBob Monkhouse done a show when he knew he was dying, it aired on tv and was named something like ‘Beyond the grave’
*aired after his death obvs
Haha ... I believe the last gig was performed when he was alive in front of the audience, the show I was alluding to was filmed alone with the purpose of showing it after his death as a hologram type performerIf only there was a thread called 'Bob Monkhouse's last gig' hey @Kurt lol
