I'm fed up with politics, and now we've a manager I'm sitting about waiting for us to sign boss players.

So in the meantime, let's continue our occasional Saturday strolls down memory lane and have a look at Big Bob Latchford.

I just missed out on seeing him but my dad loved him. Tell us about him blues......

I'm too young to remember but I heard him say something once about his 10k prize money. It was something along the lines of:

By the time I had split the prize money amongst the players and paid tax on it......

Something along those lines

Can anybody remember the story?

Yeh he basically ended up with sod all.

He insisted on splitting the money between the squad in the interests of fairness, and by the time he'd paid the tax on the initial prize he had nothing left.

Yes I heard something like it cost him more in the long run and wasn't worth the hassle

Far and away the best header of the ball I have ever seen! bob used to throw himslef towards balls coming in at shin height, meet them and flick them up into the roof of the net! Never seen anyone else do that on a consistent basis! He was my idol and still is to be honest! Lovely, lovely guy when you meet him too! I shudder to think what he would be worth in todays market!

He never had an easy ride at Everton by the fans. He used to try and throw the cushions back into the main stand and he was also accused of being very lazy. No doubt he was a goalscorer and like someone already said I cannot think of a better header of the ball. It was a pleasure to see his career blossom at Everton and also sad to see it wane. A typical traditional Everton no. 9. I loved him but like every player at Everton he had to win his critics over. His speciality IMO was to head the ball back in the direction from where it came towards goal and the keeper had no chance. Simularities with Lukaku was that he had great strength but didn't use it enough.

My absolute hero growing up. I remember getting on the pitch when he scored the pen against Chelsea for his 30th goal.

My Mum and Dad were in the Main Stand and saw me running round like a loon.

I wasn't allowed out for a week after that. Worth EVERY minute though.
Lucky Sod Bob,I was in the Main Stand and had no chance of getting on the pitchlol
