Everton’s deadline day signing Bryan Oviedo and former player Derek Temple were on hand to give out prizes at Everton in the Community’s 2012 Disability Player of the Year Awards on Friday evening.

Everton in the Community’s disability programme is the largest and most respected in the world, delivering over 10,000 football opportunities for disabled children and adults every year.

Using the power of sport, the charity has engaged with over 17,000 disabled participants and 2,850 in the past year alone on a local, national and international level. There are currently an unrivalled 26 successful disability teams representing Everton, which field a total of eight international players.

Some of the numbers in that struck me. Nice to read something like that to get over the feeling of anger and frustration after losing on the weekend. That's the kind of thing that we as supporters should be proud of, not just the first team. It's even better for those among us lucky enough to get to Goodison regularly knowing that if you ever throw loose change in a collection bucket it's going towards helping all those people in difficult situations.

Apologies if this is a bit off topic, just think it's good to talk about how good the club's charity work really is sometimes.

Everton in the Community are ace.
