in memoriam - 1961-2023
Firstly I'm delighted to hear Leighton, Jags and Ross Barkley make Hodgson's 23. John Stones is on the standby list - well done!

Secondly I think we'll be in even better shape next season with all our rivals having almost all their first XI's on duty whereas it seems we're down to the England three, Tim Howard and Kevin Mirallas.

Where else will be following former Blues? Tim Cahill obviously, Fellaini and Rooney and a scattering of others - Segundo Castillo for a start. Mustafi (perhaps), Romelu, Landon Donovan, maybe Lacuna, Joey Yobo.

Still blows my mind that France has never called up Distin.

Also gutted that Oviedo won't make it back in time. Big loss for Los Ticos.

Hopefully they will be home early and so avoid the dreaded world cup hangovers at the start of the season.

We've a good showing.

Am kind of surprised Barry didn't make the standby group as I rate him more than Cleverley and even Carrick.

well done blues, 3 in there and stones on standby at such a young age is brilliant, especially in such a big area of the pitch. he's clearly better than smalling, but there you go.

definitely, if carrick isn't going, then he has to be there, especially ahead of lampard who's barely featured and like gerrard isn't really that good at that position.

i'm a bit miffed that england have picked a whole squad without a genuine defensive mid.

Well done Boys, Stones is going and will replace Phil Jones when he drops out

The Mersey Connection:

Hart (Tranmere)
Johnson, Jagielka, Baines
Henderson, Gerrard, Rooney, Barkley, Sterling
Lambert, Sturridge

Stand-by: Ruddy, Carroll, Flanaghan, Stones
