Is it all a scam? Do things actually drop that much in price during this?

Im looking at getting a new TV but someone in work said he read somewhere that it’s cheaper if I wait a few weeks.

Anyone seen any bargains?

I could have dreamt this like, but I'm sure I watched something on the telly where they were talking about the sales, and they said something along the lines of, a shop will have been selling a TV for £500, then around 10 days or so before their sale they will put a price tag of £600 for the same TV, then drop it back down to £500 in their 'sale' so you think you're getting a £100 off when in all reality you're not.

Thats how i always thought but remember seeing something were there is some type of rule or Law were they cant pretend to drop the price to make it seem like you saved money

That wouldn’t surprise me one bit.

There is a law to kind of cover that , but you still need to read between the lines.
Previously you could put something on sale for a short time at a higher price and then claim it was reduced, but that's been tightened up.

It's kind of common sense, and too late now, but if you're thinking about buying something on Black Friday you'd ideally know what price it's been on sale at over the last few months. There'll be bargains around, but most of what appear to be bargains probably aren't.
