A tiny coterie of super rich clubs did not monopolise the major honours the way it is now.

Clubs rose and fell....it was the natural way of things when gate money was split between the two clubs and super agent was a term applied to James Bond or Harry Palmer.
Very true Khalekan. Forest winning the league after finishing 3rd in the 2nd division the year before proves that.
I never knew we tried to bring in Don Revie as manager. I did hear we tried to get Bobby Robson. Was this the same year ? It makes the appointment of Bingham seem bizarre after chasing such big names

No, Bobby was all but signed after Billy was fired but it fell through at the last minute and we got Girdon instead.

I think we tried to sign Revie when Harry left but as you say, we wound up with a very bizarre appointment in Billy Bingham.
