I dont claim to be a hippity hop expert so cheers for that.

Just always made me curious especially the alyiah thing, why was she made out to be such a good artist despite not really going anywere?
Think this about Jim Morrison and The Doors, don't get the hype at all.

Same with Nirvana and Kurt Cobain.

All opinions I suppose.

I can dig this sort of pop and I guess it kicks bottom with the youth! I may pop a cap and smoke some hoods later, or have some afternoon tea instead.

I've always thought Jim Morrison was way overrated. Great band and everything, and he was undeniably a great frontman, but poet and visionary? Get outta here.

Nirvana kind of lucked out (or not, depends how you look at it), they were a cool band, but one among many others at the time, there had been something building from about 1988 in American alternative rock, a few bands might have done what Nirvana did IMO, "Nevermind" had enough of a poppy-sounding production job to make the crossover into the mainstream and "Smells Like Teen Spirit" got the radio behind it. It took everyone by surprise just how well it did, not least the band themselves.

The fella named after Yfronts i don't condone murdering fat black rappers but as far as noise pollution to my ears are concerned yesterday's news is today's chip paper

see i get nivarna, bringing grunge to the forefront of music at that time, especially as things like metal were far away from the mind of the public until metallica brought the black album out.

the doors less so, but they are spoken to me as fantastic despite me not really liking them.

The Black Album came out a month before Nevermind.

Fine.

but rock was not anywhere near the forefront of anyones thoughts before nivarna and certainly metal wasnt until the black album.

Just like today, you can listen to dubstep all you want but it wasnt until Skrillex took it mainstream that people thought about it. Nivarna did that for rock away from all the other bands because they suddenly made it cool to like it. Noone was cool for listening to the smashing pumpkins or janes addiction!

and metallica just blew everything out the water with the black album, metal that was actually more than scary monsters or big hair dos

Guns n' Roses were about the biggest band in the world at the time.

Haha! Me and me mates thought were back then. FFS lol

Still reckon Jane's would've done what Nirvana did if they'd stayed together. Thankfully Perry just thought, f*** it, I'm going to chill out and do some painting and get off the gear.

Smh at people downgrading Nirvana and the Doors in here. Sad that people took a look around the great band warehouse and didn't like what they saw.

They both belong in the great band warehouse for sure, I like them both a lot and own plenty of their records.

I just think The Doors are overrated by some and don't by into the "Jim Morrison, poet and visionary" myth, and was explaining why Nirvana got as massive as they did. They were a cool band, but I like Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth and Jane's Addiction more than them, for example, and before "Smells Like Teen Spirit" came out, "Freak Scene" and "Been Caught Stealing" were the tunes that would turn the dancefloor into a warzone at clubs that played that sort of thing.
