Last night was crap, really depressingly crap, not sure why it keeps happening and it pisses everyone off big time, but for the first time in my life (38) we have a Manager who wants to change the club from top to bottom and instil a total football ethic from the kids to the first team, a way of playing that is distinctive and fantastic to watch. This is not a quick task to complete and there are going to be harsh lessons along the way (last night was definitely one) but at least we can see a way forward. Everything is not built on effort and getting stuck into teams there is a clear blueprint of how we will play and we will take it to everyone isn't this what we have been screaming for?.

Arsenal, Man Utd away, Liverpool and Chelsea at home this season have been the best we have seen for a long, long time, players need to be moved on and replaced overtime, we all know this. Last night was tough but we still have a lot to play for and a lot to be optimistic about Barkley, Stones, Coleman, McCarthy, Mirallas etc.

They will learn from this and will get better and better, the big picture still looks a lot better than it has for a long time.

Well said mate

It's by no means the end of our season, we are 4 points behind 4th and have a decent draw in the Cup, we've only been beat 3 times in the league.

Last night was a shambles but we need to rememeber Jagielka / Alcaraz / Pienaar and Barkley were all not match fit. Hopefully we'll get Distin, Coleman and Deulofeu back in the next few weeks as well. Lukaku will be a blow but he hasnt been great for a while now, I still believe we can make this season a success.

It hurts like hell taking a hammering against them but we cant dwell on it, its gone now, move on and look to start putting things right Saturday

Last night was massively depressing, and feel a bit humiliated, however, for the team and for us going forward, the Sunderland result was a much worse one for us and our aspirations.

It was a flattering scoreline and some disastrous defending in the first half. Like booby said the period of 15mins were we lost the game.

That said I agree with OP there is more to look forward too and you learn from mistakes more than not. Forwards Blues!

Its truely amazing to watch them turn to fear at anfield, they have been r*p*d enough times now that the fear of losing should be gone in that its time to play with more confidence. 15 years of misery and pain for evertonians especially merseyside evertonians is tough to take. I guess we can agree that we dont like visiting anfield so lets hope the fixtures for next season have us at anfield first and 3 points on the line rather than anfield 2nd and 6 points on the line as long as we are still continuing in an upward progression, I'm aware that means no goodison for over a year but we keep surrendering these points we may as well try to eliminate their worth

Bobby said their would be testing time along the way. and so, there was!

To shake up the club / style of player like Martinez has im surprised there hasnt been more days like yesterday. He's done a fantastic job in such a short period of time afterall Rome wasn't built in a day. There are going to be testing times but its important we stand by the manager/team

Because we've been starved of success we want to see results instantly - given our budget this is an almost impossible task.

I live in Aus so was sleeping thru the game.... Woke up around 6.30 so about the 70th min..... I'm not exaggerating .... But if I went out on the piss and woke up the next morning with dwain Johnson hanging out the back of me..... I still wouldn't have felt as violated as I did when I checked the score this morning .....

Couldnt agree more with OP, I remember back in 85 when we lost our first game of the season 4-1 at home to Tottenham, 10 months later we were champions. As stated Im sure the lads will have learnt from last night and will go on from here. The guy has been in charge 7 months and we have lost 3 league games and seen some of the best football we have seen for years. Although last night is hard to swallow it's not the time to make wholesale changes, the ethos is right and the results will come, lets not kill the enthusiasm of this new era by dwelling on one particularly bad result. People go too far one way or the other.
I said at the start of the season that anything over 50 points is a good start for Martinez. Unless we have a complete meltdown that looks nailed on.
With a fully fit squad it looked like 65+ points was possible, this would have been a really, really good start.
With an injury ravaged squad we've looked less good in recent weeks, that is to be expected. If our top 4 rivals are missing 5 players they have 5x£10m+ signings they can bring in instead. We can't.
What RM needs to show is that he can win points and adapt his style when we are without key players. Moyes was excellent at this (5th and a cup final in the season with no strikers and Jags and Arteta out). It might not mean we get the beautiful football we had at the start but it is the one area we all worried about on his appointment and he has to show he can do it.
Even if this season does fizzle out we've put in some performances to be proud of this year.

True, but the truth is that he only signed one (McCarthy) or two (McGeady) for the long term, even if we sign Barry, he is 33 already.

The quality of the players we got lucky with this season might not be available on loan for next season

The reality is that we only have one striker who is 30 something, out for the rest of the season, never scored a goal for us and is average at best (career stats + few games he played for us)

I will reserve my judgement till the summer, he has a major rebuilding to do, loaning players should be bonus

Awful last night but the reality is we had half a side out.

What it shows is that we desperately need to strengthen. Bobby has allowed players to leave, he now needs to go out and sign some players that can have an immediate impact.

Big few days coming up...
