I would agree with that, a cult hero. Like him or not there was a buzz about the team when he came on the pitch and his influence , IMHO, got things done. A thug? quite possibly but then again could we not put that down to wanting to win badly at all costs.

I think Jeff sums up Duncan Ferguson for me.

Big Dunc certainly lives up the description of footballing enigma. On the one hand an injury prone lazy thug/lovable rogue who never fulfilled his footballing potential. At the same time an icon who could lift the crowd and inspire both passion and loyalty from fans and players. There is a lot about Big Dunc that players can learn from, pride and passion for the team on the plus side, discipline on the other side.

I could never think of him as a football legend, but I will still always remember him as a hero for his passion for the cause.
