Better Call Saul is following in the footsteps of the show it inspired, Breaking Bad, in being made available to watch through Netflix.
The spin-off has been highly anticipated by Breaking Bad fans since July 2012, when Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan said in an interview, "I would love to see a Saul Goodman spin-off". Netflix announced in a statement that the show will air on American network AMC in 2014 and then Netflix will broadcast Better Call Saul in Latin America and Europe shortly afterwards.
As confirmed in November, Bob Odenkirk will star as Goodman, the crooked lawyer who aids Breaking Bad meth cooks Walter White and Jesse Pinkman. Better Call Saul will be co-written by Gilligan and Peter Gould, the Breaking Bad writer who created the Saul character.
The spinoff will tell the story of how the mall-based lawyer arrived at his Better Call Saul! branding, before he became White's attorney. Gilligan has also hinted that Breaking Bad actors Bryan Cranston (White) and Aaron Paul (Pinkman) may make cameo appearances in the show.
The announcement that Netflix will air the show in Latin America and Europe comes after Breaking Bad network AMC confirmed it would be broadcasting Better Call Saul in September. Sony Pictures, who produced the Emmy winning show, will continue to work on Better Call Saul.
