Vaughan

Player Valuation: £15m
Random thought ran across my mind on a Sunday afternoon, who would make up a speculative team of players who didn’t set the world alight when wearing royal blue but had good or even legendary careers away from us. Here’s my attempt off the top of my head:

—————Vesterveld——————

Neill———Dier——Materazzi——Valente

Van der Meyde—Dacourt——Gazza——Ginola

———Mark Hughes———Eto’o—————

Thought Valente was solid for us but couldn’t think of anyone else and his couple of decent seasons with us pale in comparison to european glory with Porto

Who is in yours?

Think, you’ve named em all lol Walcott, schneiderlin maybe

Mcgeady I guess had a descent career, pathetic for us. Whatever happened Matteo Ferrari, I would say Beattie had a descent career aswell

Thankfully there's not a lot of players in the Premier League era who had a decent run with us (let's say, 10+ games) and were average/crap yet went on to bigger and better things with other clubs. Olivier Dacourt and Marco Materazzi are decent shouts (nether were crap but they hardly set the world alight at Everton). Eric Dier I don't think got a start when he was with us?

I wouldn't put the likes of Gazza/Eto'o/Ginola/Mark Hughes/comeback Rooney in the list to be honest, as they were clearly on the way downhill and were using us as a last decent pay day.

Manny Fernandes is one actually that comes to mind - didn't quite hit the expected heights with us, had a decent career thereafter. Jo also had a good-ish career post-Everton (still was capped by Brazil in 2014, four years after Everton, so he couldn't have been all that bad).
