Best xbox360 games ever

With budgets eclipsing hollywood blockbusters - rumours of 100 million plus to develop some games - you can understand that the people with the money want these things to work. Unfortunately, this nearly always results in banal formulaic crap.

The best films, music, art and games are made by passionate artisans, touched by genius, and are done for the love of the medium and within ecstacy of communication.

Nevermind, San Andreas, 3 studies for figures at the base of a crucifixation, Apocalypse Now - were works of art first and commodities second.

This is why I adore the Xbox live arcade so much.

Without the crux of the money-conscious publisher, developers can put out more experimental and original games. Double Fine -- the devs lead by Tim Schafer, my gaming biz hero -- recently stopped making retail games after a lengthy debacle with Activision. Instead they've made smaller downloadable titles. I've played 2 of them so far; Costume Quest and Stacking, and they're both charming and original, and neither have much mass market appeal in the slighest!

Not played many. I enjoyed Braid because it felt like hallucinogens meets old school platform gaming.

I also enjoyed the scarecrow bits in Arkhum Asylum for similar reasons. Reality melting is far more powerful when the budget ensures the graphics are up to scratch.

I love the whole arcade and grassroots developers of gaming. I still want the major big money developers to take more risks.

Ultimately, making creative decisions by market survey and consumer polls only results in something stale and half baked.

How many poor Doom and GTA clones do we need?

Preaching to the choir here, matey!

Don't worry. In 10 years time I'll be the biggest, baddest games dev on the planet. My games -- obviously to be played in a Tron-esque virtual environment -- will blow your testes off. Probably.

As for Arkham Asylum, that is a fantastic shout. The bit where

EPIC SPOILER COMING UP SO IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED IT THEN STOP READING FFS

... it seems to crash and revert back to the main menu, made me think my 360 had red ringed! That was one of the most inspired moments in a game I've ever seen, and it took me completely by surprise.
