He was a devious, cheating little short arse with small man syndrome, who had great fun smashing tomato cans but had to cheat to get past the only real side of any consequence he came up against in 1986

He and his despicable team then kicked, dived and connived their way to a Final in 1990, where the German's finally brought the charade of them being the world's best side to a crushing end by giving them a taste of their own medicine
And they say time heals all wounds lol

Maradonna was the king of cheating because he almost always got away with it

Suarez got sent off for the red card at the World Cup and was punished for each instance of biting

Maradonna got away with handling the ball both in 86 and in 1990, while also drugging the Brazilian players in the 1990 2nd Round Match

Karma finally caught up with the dirtbag in 1994

He's the most successful cheater in the history of football and shows literally zero remorse for any of it

How he gets anywhere near "best player ever" is beyond me. Yes, he was very good at football, but if he hadn't cheated how far would he have gotten? He scored a very good goal against England in 86, but in the 82 and 90 World Cups he massively underperformed and he was so bad by 1994 that he had to take performance enhancing drugs just to be competitive. He had 1 good World Cup out of 4, and in that one World Cup he had to cheat to get past the Quarter Finals

And yet he's supposed to be up there with Pele, Cryuff, Ronaldo, Messi, Puskas, Matthews etc?

Be arsed with that

Agree that Maradona wasn't exactly the straightest player ever but don't let that detract from the fact that he was an utter genius with the ball at his feet.

One of the best players ever to play the game.
