Maybe it's because I'm 'Merican, but I'd offer these suggestions:
00's Elbow - never heard of these guys, but Muse offers some good tracks; Foo Fighters are decent too
90's Nirvana - pick almost any tune over those Manchester lads; also, there was a band called Metallica that was active for a while
80's Jacko - hard to beat
70's Zeppelin is ok
60's You know, there was a group called the Beatles that were around during this time too; I'd rate them (as you Brits that say)
50's Chuck Berry - no objection, but the Presley kid was also impressive
10s Jake Bugg - Two Fingers
00s Jamie T - Spider's Web
90s The Stone Roses - Ten Storey Love Song
80s The Stone Roses - This is the One
70s The Undertones - Teenage Kicks
60s - Bob Dylan - Like a Rolling Stone
00s - Keep the car running (Arcade Fire)
90s - How to disappear completely (Radiohead)
80s - Girlfriend in a coma (Smiths)
70s - If you see her say hello (Dylan)
60s - White light, white heat (Velvet Underground)
50s - What'd I Say (Ray Charles)
I would also say that Nirvana were nowhere near as good as Oasis and if Noel Gallagher had of died upon the release of Be Here Now, he would have been held in a much higher regard than what Kurt Cobain is.
