Stand up is a weird one for me. If I could name one quality about myself it's that i'm by all accounts a pretty funny guy which would suggest i'm a sucker for comedy, and yet I (for the most part) cannot stand the slew of buddy-ish comedians that are taking over our screens one clique at a time as of late. It seems like every week there's a new quiz show where David Mitchell or one of his chums are the team captain and it's all painfully unfunny for me, with the exception of maybe 8 Out Of 10 Cats.

I hardly ever watch television and therefore hardly ever catch comedy/stand up that's on...Russell Howard, John Bishop, Sarah Millican, Michael McIntyre, Rufus Hound, Ed Byrne, Frankie Boyle, even the Yanks like Louis CK or Sarah Silverman...I couldn't recite one of their jokes if I tried.

I give you all this preamble because my choice for my all time favourite stand up show is a painfully obvious one which you'd think would be listed in the above...

Now, being from the North West this is already more relatable to me than some Londoner complaining about the Congestion Charges and maybe that's just it. Everything is so relatable to me on this one...the video labelling, the weddings, the way old women count your change out in the shop, mum asking you to give her 3 rings...

If you've ever caught Bullseye on Challenge not long after watching this you know he absolutely nails it and that's just the tip of the iceberg. I remember me & the family watching it when it first came out and i've still not to this day seen my dad laugh harder then when he spoke about dipping your biscuits in your brew.

Of course being a fan of Phoenix Nights, the Ray Von-esque DJ impression goes down a treat too.

Pretty obvious choice, but it can't be bettered for me...what's the best stand up show you've ever seen?

Live? Has to be Peter Kay, never laughed so much. Time I seen Billy Connolly - meh

I've got to admit, I've never ever seen what was funny about Billy Connolly, the Ken Bigley stuff didn't exactly help but I've never warmed to him.

I'll have to give his stuff more of a try, I guess.

Steve Hughes & Reginald D Hunter last year in Belfast on same bill
Saw Micky Flanagan last week first half of his set dissapointing second half was brilliant!

I thought he was better than Hunter tbh. His bit about aussies naming things had me in fits!

See I don't find Peter Kay's stand up funny at all really, not seen him live but can't imagine that would change my opinion.

Jimmy Carr a few years back when he wasn't as well known as he is now was excellent live but the show I've probably laughed most at live is Al Murray. Unfortunately I see him on stuff now though and he is painfully unfunny. Micky Flannagan was brilliant as was Jason Manford. I got dragged along to see Russell Howard at the o2 as my mrs has some weird thing for him and he was alright to be honest.

Live - Bill Bailey at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, a week ago Friday was superb.

John Bishop last year was disappointing - I expected a lot more from a scouse comedian on home turf. Hardly laughed. Andy Parsons at the Phil in 2008 was also really good, but by far the best was Dara O'Briain at the Empire 2012.

Reginald D Hunter is one I want to see, not seen much of his stand up before but on other things I've seen him on he's great.

I was a bit disappointed by Hunter TBH. Maybe cos he is on tv a lot I suppose.

Like Groucho, loved Dara O Brian, he was ace

bill bailey's a legend, love his work

I was always under the impression that Bishop isn't a scouser though, I may be wrong
