Best squad for a generation?

So, I guess the question now needs asking, were we all wrong about this squad?

It wasn't just us! Pundits too claiming we should be a top 6 side with this group of players.

They have to take the blame too, I've probably not seen such disorganised unprofessionalism from a group of players as we have seen in the last few months.

Who deserves to stay next season?

Some of them have real talent, do you believe they would do any better under a new manager? Or, should a small nucleus be kept and a massive rebuilding job commence?

Anyone outside of everton say we aren't as good as we think we are.

I say the players have not got a clue as to how to play and win a football match anymore. The tactics are getting worse and worse and if you expect a set of players to be able to follow instruction that isn't working AND come out of it smelling of roses then you will be suprised.

What do you want these players to do? It is basics of tactics that are not being served up here. The players themselves under a more competent manager would not be performing like this. We have some great talent in there but without coaching they aren't going to win us games.

The sad thing is they will be gone at the end of the season. Stones will be gone. Lukaku will be gone. Barkley I think will stay and the players who should be going will not. This is all down to Martinez's utterly ridiculous tactics. If we were up there challenging for CL they would all stay. I'm pretty sure better paid contracts were being drawn up for them all with the cash injection but even that won't keep them here now. Especially with inept Martinez in charge. He has to go and i'm sure the man Moshiri putting his money in knows this.

We probably do have the best squad i.e. as individual players. What we dont have is anywhere near the best team i.e. sum of their parts. No cohesion, lack of mental strength, dubious levels of desire.

No, they are objectively our best squad for a generation.

We have two England international centre-halves, so they're not just rated by Everton fans. Similarly, we have a striker who has a world elite level of scoring stats, a creative midfielder who literally everyone raves about, and two full backs who were the envy of the league for the best part of a decade.

No, we haven't overrated them. This is the best squad we've had since the 80s, regardless of what clueless Carragher says as he stuck his bitter knife in last night. The problem is the management of them.

A good manager would get this lot playing. He'd also identify the crap that needs binning off very quickly.

You'd just spend hours drilling them on the training ground in the art of defending. That'd see a quick improvement in itself.

Totally agree - individually we have the most talented group of players since the mid 1980's. Unfortunately it's a team game and the management of that is totally to blame.

Ive highlighted this in 2 threads on the squad.

CB - Stones/Mori
DM -- Besic/McCarthy
RW -- Deulofeu
ACM -- Barkley
CF -- Lukaku

The rest i'm not bothered about but we need to keep those 7 players + Galloway/Connolly/Kenny etc being brought through at full back ready for next season + Ledson/Walsh etc being assessed in the summer.

I'd have a huge clearout starting with:
Howard
hibbert
osman
gibson
pienaar
kone
mirallas
mcgeady
mcaleny

Baines/Oviedo/Garbutt can all be sold as well unless they are happy to be squad players.

We just got carried away with the smell of potentially something good happening and RM blag. Lukaku is class, imo, but the rest...some have potential, some are massively overated.

I think this squad is a long way off being even the best squad in 10 years, never mind since the 80's. Look at the midfield for Christ's sake. McCarthy and Barry are miles off being top draw, miles off. They are a bottom half centre midfield pairing, and it shows. There are lots of other overhyped players too, our wingers are nothing to write home about either. Mirallas and Lennon are the best of a bad bunch and often flatter to deceive.
