St.Brelades Jersey camping site...5 Evertonians and 2 Scots lads... after a good few jars we used to sing this going back to the site...as best we all could walking along the roadside wall......
Talk about the Seven tops:pint2::cheers:

Sam & Dave (who actually didn't like each other much). In the mists of time, did they do a gig at the Empire and a doorman (old fella) got stabbed - 60's??? Saw the Four Tops at the Empire as well as Stevie Wonder (and yes, he did trip on the mic' lead). The Supremes did some really good stuff after Diana Ross left eg 'Nathan Jones'. A great record label. A great era for music - we could listen to Motown, Dylan, Cream, Hendrix, Van Morrison, the start of Led Zep and Fairport Convention (& loads more) without getting too sniffy about the different genres. Back to Motown though and a few Everton moments - Sunderland away 68/69 ish and the half time tannoy played Stevie Wonder 'For Once in My Life' and some Blue dressed in his Comos, Ben Sherman, Parallel kecks dancing along to it on the terrace - WBA away and the Supremes playing 'Stoned Love' - The Drifters (updated version) on the pitch at Goodison at half time.

I've stated before that because I was more into Stax and Atlantic artists that were more soulful, I considered Motown to be a bit "girlie".
Having said that my favourite vocal group was The Temptations with Losing You a song close to my heart.
Played on repeat on my record player by leaving the top arm adrift while I cried my eyes out over my two timing cowboy of a girlfriend.
I agree. Motown was the soul establishment, the BBC, the val doonican, the ken dodd, choreographed, with suits and ties, nice dresses, straight hair, safe.
The difference between the proper Hamburg leather jacket and jeans Beatles and the Epstein suits
Stax and others were proper soul, beer on the floor, sweat on the walls soul

Probably one of the best recordings by the Four Tops that deserved better placement in the Charts...

The power in Levi,s voice......
I had a pair of his jeans :cool:
