Best league in the world?

That really tells you nothing about the respective leagues though. You could make the argument that English teams don't play their strongest teams in the Europa because the Premier league is so competitive and they can't risk losing points.

I don't necessarily fully believe that btw, but I don't feel European competition is that great a measure of individual leagues.

I agree, but just thought I would chuck a bit of stats in (cos i'm bored at work). One thing that does stick out for me though is that in the Champions league, 18 of the 20 semi finalists and 26 of the 40 quarter finalists over the last 5 years come from just 3 countries, andof the remaining 6 quarter finalists, 4 come from Italy.

The day of the underdog has definitely gone.

Utd certainly dominated but in recent years with their debt levels and the rise of monied clubs in Citeh and Chelsea the league has gotten much less predictable, same as with the TV deal/billionaire owners of other clubs teams are now capable of attracting higher calibre of players. For me we wouldn't be the most watched league in the world if we wasn't the best, same way Utd wouldn't have the most supporters in the league if they weren't the biggest club in England.
Biggest is not always the same as the best. Take That and The Spice Girls sold more records than Doves and The Coral. Doesn't mean they're better bands
