I don't know what got me thinking about it but I remembered the time Demba Ba hit the bar right off the kickoff for Besiktas against Arsenal a few years ago.



Any other great almost goals you can remember?

I was at Croatia vs Denmark at Euro 96 before Davor Sukee chipped Peter Schmeichel he had a pop from the halfway line and nearly caught him out.

Would have been immense.

In the Dortmund Bayern champions league final didn't Lewandowski smash a volley in for miles out but was pulled up for handball?

Peter Beardsley against Forest at home. We were winning 3-0 and it was a 45 yard volley/chip that hit the bar. Seemed to be in the sky for ages. Brilliant effort. Loved Beardsley for us, moments like that just set him miles apart from the rest

There's no video of it but in the Jags derby we got a corner at the very end and I think it was Lukaku and Naismith teaming up to attempt a wild training ground routine. Somehow it came off but the ball hit the side netting.

I'm glad you found that, no one I know remembers it and I was starting to think I was going mad

I can think of two. Sharp in the 86 semi final, 2nd half I think, where he slalomed 3 ir 4 challenges over a mazy 40 yard dribble and then with only Hodge to beat hit the keeper's legs. Would have been one of the best goals of the 80s. Although there is plenty of footage from the matchI have yet to see tbat run again.
The other I remember well, because I had a perfect view of the trajectory of the ball, was the 1-1 versus the Viet Cong in spring 96 at GP. Collymore hit a first time shot from about 30 yards where Nev did one of his famous "I'll just follow that one with my eyes" faces and the ball smacked against the bar. Although it was that lot it would have been an unbelievable goal.
