Pulp are legit one of the worst artists in any genre of music ever, I’d rather listen to ten hours of Skrillex than have to suffer through Jarvis Cockers voice, they really do perfectly sum up everything I hated about Brit pop... just such hammy music.

Oasis were bland middle of the road four chord rock music for the masses and were partly responsible for the britpop explosion which is a crime in itself. Noel was a decent songwriter but it was just really unambitious and simplistic music made by very average musicians. I understand the appeal, pissheads can stand on a pub table and sing it easily but that’s not what I want from music.

Radiohead are supremely talented and unsurprisingly are one of the few bands from that era who are still making music today’s that’s relevant, why ? Because they were very good musicians who were musically ambitious and developed their sound.

American 90s guitar music just had better musicians, more ambition and was just far more interesting to listen to for the most part.

I find the best Brit 90's guitar musik on par with the best Ammie 90's guitar musik, but I'm talking Holy Bible & Six as well as OK Computer (+ Street Spirit) rather than Verve/Pulp/Oasis. Pulp I do think Common People & Disco 2000 are rolicking fun pop numbers, no idea what their album tracks are like. Oasis I never liked. Blur had some interesting moments. Then you've got Paul Weller & PJ Harvey and even Queen made some good stuff in the early-90's.

If we're taking more generally: what the Brits did well in the 90's was put fun and good times vibes into guitar songs, the ammies were for the most part dead earnest, as good as a lot of it was, but there's only so much pained wailing over fuzzy guitars I can take until I need an antidote.

An objective and subjective tie in my book.

Not having that about Pulp matey. Fair enough if it's not your cup of tea but they'd been going since the late '70's and done a rake of albums before the whole "Britpop" thing, which I loathed for the most part. They kind of got lumped into it by accident really. Their stuff is a cut above and way more interesting than most of it. Jarvis is one of the best lyricists this country has produced for my money.

Fair. I'm not a fan either for the same reasons. Like the first records, it's got a bit of energy and punk sneer about it. After that, tedious in the extreme. "Champagne Supernova" is one of the worst songs ever written.

Yep.

American 90s guitar music just had better musicians, more ambition and was just far more interesting to listen to for the most part. There are exceptions but one has to generalise when talking about a subject like this.

I think that's unfair. Mogwai, Primal Scream, Levitation, Arab Strap, Slowdive, Happy Mondays and My Bloody Valentine (and others) all say "hello".

There was just as much turgid, dull American stuff as British during the era.

You've ploughed that into row Z, I am afraid, longers. I didn't particularly like Pulp at the time, found Jarvis tedious, but the quality is obvious. You won't find a clearer example of musical development from bands around that time then their final destination of This is Hardcore. That album is why they are NOT around today [and radiohead are stil warbling along somewhere] - there was nowhere left to go after that. Few bands manage that sort of punctuation - impressive, tbh.
