Besic return?

I'd need to see more from him before making my mind up.

Is he going to be the potential worldbeater that he's been for his national side (putting Messi and Bale out of the game) or is he going to run around like a headless chicken getting injured or sent off.

I Hope the former and Id be delighted if he gets the chance to show if he can make it with us.

Another injury though and I'll be saying (and McCarthy too) get rid...

I think that was more due to him just having a bad game in general rather than having a bad game because of the position.
Exactly. He has played all over the pitch and has proven that he can be a spot player kind of like Diarra was for Real Madrid. He hasn't been spotless mind you, but he has the pace and ability to play all over. Great slide tackler as well. I think at one point he played CB for a while earlier in his career?

Yeah played there for Ferencvaros. Obviously he is a bit short for a traditional CB in a standard back 4 but with 3 CBs he would be ideal.

His best trait for me is how two footed he is. He doesn't seem to have a weak side.

He is similar to Barkley in that regard. Every time I watched Besic he seemed a little raw, but not overbearingly so. If he can add a little more discipline to his game there is no reason he couldn't spot in a back three or out wide on certain occasions as he can be a lock-down player on his day.

He's good enough for us in my opinion, his big issue is staying fit and healthy

If he can manage that then he's worth having on the books, no doubt, especially as I could see both Barry and McCarthy not being here next season, leaving us with a lack of depth in that position
Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Genuinely not sure.

Idrissa, Barry, Schneiderlin and Davies are all ahead of him and rightly so. McCarthy will be thrown out i'd guess for his (debatable) indiscretions.

He bring tenacity, absolutely, does Besic, but what else? His work in the final third is really, really poor. With Morgan now looking after the defence, we need people who can play a pass into the forwards - something Gueye does quite well (although no consistently enough).

He's a bit of an enigma is Besic.

Well he's a defensive midfielder, so I'm more bothered about what he does in the first two thirds, and as we saw when he was at his best he's excellent in that area of the pitch, just ask Yaya Toure

With a small squad and European commitments, he definitely has a part to play, especially as it looks like Jimmy Mac wants to go. It's clear Koeman rates McCarthy and wants him to be involved, but if Jimmy wants out then he's hardly being "thrown out" is he?

If we have potentially 50+ games to play then he can help out to ensure players like Schneiderlin and Gana aren't run into the ground

I understand if people are wary about his fitness and health, due to the time he's spent out, but I can't understand why anyone would question his ability. He's a good player and if he can stay fit then he'll be a great addition to the ranks IMO

Still, despite him being a defensive midfielder his job will be to get further forward than Schneiderlin.

We seem to play a bit of a 4-1-2-3, would that be fair? Besic could play where Schneiderlin plays but he isn't going to be first choice. I'd say second choice would be Gueye. What Gueye / Davies have over Besic is their ability to get into the final third and make a difference. Everything I've seen of Besic is neat, tidy, tenacious (ask Toure, as you say) but is very basic in the final third.

You're right, if he's back up / in the mix due to the amount of games we play next season then he's worthy of a place in the squad. With quality additions though, I can't see him being a regular starter. He may (and probably will) prove me wrong in this regard though!

Re: McCarthy, didn't Koeman say that his injuries would be part of the assessment of whether he is kept or sold in the summer? And that was before the latest debacle with ireland?

I really like McCarthy so hope he stays, I can just see him being one of those culled.

If McCarthy leaves it will be an Oviedo situation where he asks to go for minutes

Koeman likes him and appreciates what he brings to the table, but he probably wouldn't be a guaranteed starter, which could mean jimmy might seek out pastures new

I personally think a starting midfield three of Davies, Gana and Schneiderlin with a fit McCarthy and Besic as back up would give us one of the leagues better midfields

For me Besic has everything i could want from an Everton player, passion, workrate, 2 footed, skillfull and reads the game well. Lack of game time has probably meant he is still a little raw though. With koeman looking after him i personally think we have a real diamond here, its upto Ronald now to polish him.

In a nutshell, he's had some cracking games, bossing the midfield against toures city being a highlight, if he can stay fit hes a good player
