Perhaps stating the obvious, but perhaps a gentle debate (or all round agreement) about a couple of our players may calm the pre-semi final nerves and that.

Do you see Besic as Gareth Barry's long term successor? Barry has been good this season, yet some folk don't really rate either him or Besic, or like Besic and not Barry, or vice versa.

Is Besic lacking experience? Would he have benefitted from a loan last season?

What's your opinion on it?

Definitely think he has the ability, just needs to learn better positional sense off the ball. Would like to see them both tomorrow if mccarthy is still not fit

Barry has been excellent this season. Besic has looked more than capable when called upon. I'd hope that although they are slightly different in style, Besic could be blended in more between now and the end of the season meaning he'd be ready for a more prominent role next season.

I thought Besic would be one of the players of the season this year. For whatever reason; be it injuries or signing Cleverley he hasn't had many chances. Came on and completely changed the balance of our team on Sunday and looked superb on the ball aswell as the crunching tackles. Definitely should be starting more games.

I'd play him alongside Barry for the next few games, give McCarthy a proper rest to get fit. If he played as well as he did the other day for a few full 90's, Barry and McCarthy can fight for the other place. I think Besic needs to feel involved more to properly settle, which apparently may be an issue according to some.

I think so, although Barry has a season or 2 left in him in my opinion. If we use him sparingly.

I think this team needs Besic' tenaciousness if I'm honest, it could well be the missing ingredient and a kick up the backside for those around him. I really like the kid.

He hasn't been used much this season purely down to his injuries.

He started a lot more than anybody expected him to last season both domestically and in Europe, and I think we'll see the benefit of that experience soon enough.

Long term, he should be the one to phase Barry out, IMO. His range of passing is excellent (better than Barry's) but he does sometimes have a tendency to overplay (no unique fault in our side, I know).

For me, our first-choice pairing should still be Barry/McCarthy.

However, by the end of the season/start of next, I expect Besic to be taking over that role.

definitely, said it for a while, he's man marked messi and bale to great success on the international stage - no reason he can't keep players as good as silva and ozil quiet as well.

i think martinez has that aim, but he's still worried about his positioning and wants him to learn.

Loved his performance the other day. I still think he has a lot to learn, but I really like the way he seems capable of both defending and attacking play, like a competent midfielder should do. Can't stand midfielders that are limited to one or the other.
