Will Lukaku now play to avoid injury rather than play to battle into Belgium's starting line up though?

Or will it make no difference?

Wheres this being reported?

I've only seen The Mail reporting it:

EDIT: The Birmingham Mail are reporting it now:

http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/spo...aston-villa-christian-benteke-suffers-6916173

Christian Benteke has suffered a season ending injury which has wrecked his World Cup dream.

Aston Villa's star striker tore his achilles tendon in training and could be out for several months.

An Villa spokesman confirmed that Benteke is undergoing a scan on his archilles tendon. The club said they will confirm the severity of his injury tomorrow morning.

The Belgium battering ram has struggled to recapture his goal scoring form from his stunning debut campaign but he is still Villa's top scorer this season with 11 goals.

ah god dammit. it's a shame pretty much any time a player misses the world cup. quite like benteke myself, and will be cheering on belgium

Darn, lad must be gutted.

Hope he recovers from it, Yakubu was never the same player after his went though he was 20 years older.

That's a downer for the lad. The positive thing for him is that he's still young and Belgium's squad is young enough and looks good enough for him to have another crack.

Hope he makes a full recovery.

feel sorry for any player who misses out on something they've dreamed about all their lives. as Jamo ^ says he's still young and Belgium may qualify for Russia so hopefully he'll get another chance.
