Ben Mee - Spirit of VE day

All this ‘it will give the nation a boost’ is so narcissistic from football and footballers. Do they think that putting on games (most of which are now manipulated by referees) behind closed doors in a league with virtually nothing left to play for at the top is going to ‘boost the nation’? A vaccine that worked would boost the nation, seeing the virus dying off would boost the nation, job security and travel restrictions being lifted would boost the nation. Watching Liverpool beat Burnley 1-0 behind closed doors in a game that doesn’t matter because Ben Mee deliberately fouled another Liverpool attacker for another penalty again is not going to boost anyone.

The majority of football fans are male, even amongst the men there’s a lot that don’t care about it or like other sports more, even amongst the football fans a large number now have no interest in football coming back this season until things turn around for the better. So it would boil down to a very low % of the nation who would actually want to see football come back this season. Don’t let that get in the way though of the powers behind the game who control the game for their own profit and are now manipulating the media to desperately restart it so they have their pay day.

I'm wondering if the broadcasters are realising how many people don't miss football. That would explain part of the push to get their product back up and running.

Yes.

Transfer speculation and grandeur pre season cups, mean the game is never out of the public spotlight and psyche.

This is an absolute disaster for the brand.

I have not missed modern football in the slightest. In fact I am enjoying the old re runs of games more.

New isn't always better.

what is apparent from watching old games (the older the better) is how much more balanced the commentary is. They actually treat most clubs with a bit of respect and reverence. Now commentary is just a load of United and Liverpool sycophants doing a 90 minute promotion for their respective clubs regardless of who is playing. If other teams are good they’re patronised and when they’re not they’re mocked and criticised. There’s even been disappointment in commentators voices when goals have gone in against their precious teams. The days of respectful, unbiased, knowledgeable, interesting commentary on football are long over. What we’ve got now is the equivalent of a state run propaganda machine just pumping the same few inane messages out to anyone watching it. ‘This is the greatest league in the world‘ ‘It has the greatest managers in the world’ ‘another special night at Anfield’ ‘it’s the theatre of dreams’ ‘over and over again game after game after game and in the pre match and in the post match. If you watch Everton v Aston Villa you can guarantee Liverpool or United will be mentioned usually within the first few minutes. If you watch the World Cup, these clubs are normally mentioned in match commentary by the same pundits. It’s boring, one eyed, biased, nonsense that has led to me switching the commentary off whenever I watch a game now even involving Everton,

You watch an old game and you get loads of interesting facts about the players on both sides, the commentary is unbiased, they focus on matters relating to the two teams on the pitch. They let the game flow and focus on the action without hitting you with a 5 minute explanation about why Digne is not as good as his counterparts at Liverpool or repeating how Everton lost to Liverpool x weeks ago.
