Being Billy no mates

I panda to nobody
I work away from home a fair bit during the week, so I'm always looking around for decent places to eat and drink when on my travels. Sometimes there are a few of us and finding someone else who appreciates decent food and ale isn't usually a problem. Unfortunately this week there's only two of us. Me, an Evertonian who likes good pub grub and nice ales, and my colleague, a kopite who's happy eating the cheapest meal from the chippy with a bottle of crap lager. So this week it's been Billy no matesville for yours truly. There must be a few on here who have the same dilema. What's your coping strategy?

Have a look on the Campaign for Real Ale app, find some pubs you like the look of, that have footy on too.

Get a paper and away you go.

Proper beer, in a proper pub, with the footy on, it`s nigh on impossible for not to talk to anyone.

I've found a belting pub 10 minutes down the road, nice pint of Butty Bach and a mixed grill on order. I manage alright to be honest, I just can't understand how some people are happy shutting themselves away all night with a pot noodle.

When I was a rep and stayed away, I loved hunting out pubs like the one you`ve described, as you were visiting pubs, that you`d never end up in under normal circumstances.

Spending the night in a soulless chain hotel room for the night v exploring local pubs > no contest.

But to some lads it’s all about the money
They would rather sit in a hotel room watching Emmerdale and not spend a penny rather than enjoying life.
I’ve never seen pockets in a dead mans habit

More often than not I'm in my local, but when I'm away I actually look forward to visiting new pubs by myself. I'm happy with my own company but as @Brisan123 said there is always somebody to chat with in a pub.
Yep, that's my strategy when alone. Being from Chester is an advantage because nearly everyone knows or likes Chester so it nearly always sparks a conversation when I'm asked where I'm from. Good job I'm not from Bootle!
Puts on tin hat

If there’s football on all you have to do is make a reasonable comment out loud and someone will chip in with there tuppence Worth and hey hi you’ve struck up a conversation

i wouldn’t want to eat or drink in the same company as one of them anyway. You’ve had a touch mate
