Bruce, the JSA rate currently is as low as £56.80 a week, basically at the level of subsistence deemed necessary by the law.

You're talking about people at the lowest end of the scale suddenly losing over 25% of their only income simply because the house they live in has a spare room. They're expected to find other accommodation that in many instances simply doesn't exist, who in some instances are forced to make the choice between eating on the streets and starving in their home (not hyperbole that by the way, people are abandoning properties due to this subsidy).

And you think that's right?

The view that everyone on the breadline is a skiver instead of a striver and there because it's their own fault is simply wrong. There are good people who cannot avoid being put in severe hardship due to this subsidy and for that reason alone it's wrong.

Tubey I think you are confusing the issue a bit here. The persons concerned will still get their JSA of £56.80 (your figure, I presume is right) that is separate from housing benefit. So if 25% is lost it is off the housing benefit, to say it is off their only income is misleading.
