Beckford's goals

Thinking about it, all Jermaine's goals this season have been pretty memorable- his last minute equaliser against Bolton, his header to level the scores at Stamford Bridge, holding off his man to curl the ball home at Anfield, volleying the ball in to the back of the net as it dropped over his shoulder versus Blackpool, his brace against Sunderland, nipping in with a header against Wolves and of course his wonder strike on the last day of the season.

It makes you wonder, if he can start adding a few predatory 'scruffy' goals to his tally, whether we might have a 20 goal per season striker on our hands. The other interesting thing is that we haven't lost when he's scored.

He's a finisher, that's for sure.

The Blackpool, Bolton and Wolves all being right out of the top drawer, clean as you like.

20+ games in a 4-4-2 with Saha or someone of that ilk and you'll get 15 out of this guy every season, that you can not doubt.

He's a much better player than I expected, he's a great finisher and his movement is second to none.

Definetly going to make a big impact next season.

Some great goals by Beckford. He's scored the kind of goals I didn't think he would.

I thought he'd get quite a few, but by tapping them in from a yard or so, not 3 or 4 wonder strikes. Look forward to seeing what he brings next year

He's the only actual striker we have going into next season, because Saha's legs have gone, Yak and Vaughan are out and Anichebe isn't a footballer.

We need a striker in badly, preferably two, but if Moyes uses his brains he'd bring in a certain type of striker to compliment Beckford and not get seduced by blowing a load on Jermaine Defoe; no matter how good he is.

He needs to be played in a 4-4-2.

That brief period of games where him and Saha played alongside each other heralded bags of goals for the both of them.

In a nutshell - without any doubt.

He was always going to be up against it in his debut season moving up the leagues - then we ask him to completely adapt his game to that of a lone striker!? His natural attributes are never that of a lone striker. He can't hold the ball up and he doesn't have the intelligence for the role.

Round pegs - square holes. But he's still managed a few goals with limited playing time.

I reckon if we can get a decent striker in the summer and partner him with Beckford we could see him bang in close to 20 goals, the jump up in class was never gonna be easy, yet from limited chances he's done alright in a side struggling to score.

His work rate has improved also since moyes gave him a bollocking at Wolves, he is hopefully going to keep on improving, he is a likeable lad who hopefully has a good future at Goodison

Defo on for 15 next year, think 20 would be pushing it a bit, would be well happy with that tho. Just as long as he doesn't suffer second season syndrome. Goal against Chelsea's a bit overated for me tho.... :o

He's done well, better than most of us expected TBH. Hopefully he can push on next season, i just have a niggling doubt that DM doesn't really like/rate him I believe he can score 15-20 if given a good run in a 4-4-2 formation. (y)

I like Beckford, lots of people say he's lazy for some reason but he's one of the hardest workers we have, you just need to see him play a bit. I'd like to see what he can do when he's not 35 yards from the rest of his team surrounded by 4 defenders next season though, I think things might be a bit different!

Keep 'em coming Jermaine, you could find yourself wearing the number 9 shirt soon if you do.

I pretty much agree with what everyone else has said. His selfishness in front of goal is something that we haven't had for a while and is a positive attribute, but he needs to temper it a bit and develop his awareness of players in better positions around him. In many ways we could say that he's a lot like Bily. He scores great goals and then makes a hash of easy chances. With a bit more composure and more regular playing time, I don't see why he can't be one of the Premier League's most dangerous marksmen. That being said, he deserves a lot of credit for how well he's done so far.

I am just hoping he keeps on getting better, as people have said he scores big goals for us and moyes keeps on saying that his movement is as good as anyones. Anyway its not bad for a free transfer

This has proven to be a great pickup by Moyes. Especially considering he's not necessarily a kid and as a late bloomer, not a lot of managers would take a chance on him, believing he has no more upside. We got him on a free and could probably sell him for a nice chunk of change if we needed to.

That being said, if he is to be a loan striker receiving only hoof balls, he might as well just kick the other teams best player in the balls, accept the red and sit down.
