Is there a better English news service? BBC is certainly better than any rubbish we have in Australia and anything America produces.
Living outside the UK I have found the best news is from somewhere else other than the place in the news ,they seem to not be biased .For example a few years ago there was a sexual attack on one of the palace butlers and no one was named in the UK but in Finland it had his name all over the news.

5live is going down the pan these days.

The midweek show has been overtaken by a load of bloggers it seems, as have the weekend football shows.

Very rarely listen to it now.

Still some very good things about the BBC though. Kermode and Mayo and the cricket coverage for example.

An excellent question.

I fear you may have been watching too much news, brother lol
Remember driving through France about 15 years or so ago and could just about pick up Radio 4.Old Charlie Saxe-Coberg had stated that there was only a matter of months to save the planet.Being interviewed was a retired NASA weather expert who had done the job of predicting the sea conditions before capsules dropped in the 60's.He said then it was too late and that the rise in sea levels of about a metre would see the infrastructure of all the major cities fail, which in turn would cause the collapse of the insurance industry then banking. And that rather than send your kids to university teach them how to raise chickens and hunt. Now all these years later Attenborough is telling us we have ten years...and so the "news" goes around again.

I hate the BBC. Don’t report on what’s actually occurring in the world, they’re inside the royals’ bottoms and any TV series they make has to be a period costume drama.

Depends which bit of the BBC. I still think Radio 4 is a shining light in news broadcasting and current affairs. The recent election analysis was excellent - they got right into the issues and explored how the vote would go.

More broadly, the BBC is in an odd place. It's either slated for being a bastion of liberal lefty pronces and feminists or a haven for right wing zealots / dusty conservative traditionalists. Well which is it? Usually just some tart on social media reacting voluably to a piece that doesn't confirm their worldview.

I always think it's to the credit of the BBC that both the left and the right are utterly convinced it's a mouthpiece of the "other" side.
