BBC coverage - why are they trying to ruin the World Cup for us?

I suppose you could extend this to ITV too, but the BBC news as well as their WC programmes look especially designed to just about flatten any enthusiasm for this tournament. They cant give us a news report/match coverage without coating it all in stories about street protests, riots and FIFA scandal.

It really is dragging this WC down into the toilet. Last night's game is about the only time the football has gotten on top of the BS narrative they've been peddling. It looks like a decision has been made to destroy the sporting dimension of this tournament.

I think it's good they aren't glossing over the problems this tournament has caused for the Brazilian people. If it was me I'd want the rest of the world to hear.

Oh yeah, I agree. But that should be the BBC news area to cover. It's seeped right into every pore of the footy coverage though. Probably ITV are doing it too, I just tend to steer clear of the failed state of television so I'm not sure about them.

The BBC need to knock it on the head in match programmes. They seem to be taking great delight in dragging down the WC...part of this British media fixation with punishing FIFA for not awarding England the 2018 WC (which was a kick in the balls for the British establishment who nailed their colours to the mast on that bid).

On the one hand I totally agree, let the football be about football. On the other hand this has caused real problems for the indigenous population of Brazil and I think it should be shown at every opportunity.

For every man/woman/child who is loving this tournament and all it stand for their are a lot suffering for our entertainment. I think that needs to be heard/seen.

I know what you're saying Dave, the tournament should be a football celebration, but football is a social and political entity and I think it would be remiss for sports broadcasters not to address it. I've got to support the BBC's position here, celebrate the tournament yes, but don't turn a blind eye to Brazil's hubris and FIFA's antics. I think the coverage will die down unless the scale of protest really whips up or more FIFA scandals break.
A mate of mine who I go to home and away games with was on a tube after seeing Everton away in London, I couldn't make it, think it was Fulham, anyway there were some Everton fans who were getting a bit out of order and his head was really done in with it. When we were talking about it after I was saying how disappointing it is given how our fans do us proud normally. He said "I guess when you love something you got to love it regardless of the stuff that's hard to take, you just have to acknowledge its there."
Any football fan worth sharing a beer with understands this dichotomy to some degree, whether its its corruption, racism, ignorant belter fans, I think the only way you can reconcile it is to give the unsavoury stuff your thinking time now and then. A lot of your Ingerlund fans aren't as savvy as they should be.

As Yoda might put it,

Unawareness leads to ignorance, ignorance leads to denial, denial leads to kopitery

I think it has been heard. And they're right to strike while the iron is hot and the world media are looking on. I just dont need updates on the protests every ten minutes from Gary Lineker or some nonsense surrounding how bad Sepp Blatter is.

I understand, but they have got this arse about face, IMO. They are giving this way too much coverage in the matchday programmes. News stories defo. Saturate us with it. But when the match spins around leave it out unless something dramatic happens.

By the way, can you imagine the BBC (news or sport) covering sympathetically any protest in this country if we were hosting the event? I cant. As I say, I think at least part of the agenda here is this English fixation with punishing FIFA for the 2018 snub.

Its alright lads, Clarke Carlisle is there to deal with any contentious issues. I wish he'd fck off back to countdown the clueless bellend.

.....he is hopeless, but ITV in general have a B List of pundits. Didn't mind Ferdinand and Henry on BBC, interesting insight because they have played with/against many of the players on show.
