The BBC is to ban all-male comedy panel shows and insist that at least one woman is included in every line-up, the corporation’s head of television has announced.

Danny Cohen said broadcasting a programme without a woman on the panel was “not acceptable” any longer.

The new rules will apply to comedy quiz shows including Mock The Week, QI and Have I Got News For You.

Female comedians have complained of the ‘macho’ culture on such programmes.

Sandi Toksvig, who hosts The News Quiz on Radio 4, said “testosterone-fuelled arguments between the boys” made it difficult for women to get a word in edgeways.

Excellent from the BBC. Women are funny, especially the likes of Miranda and Sarah Millican. Actually hysterically funny, out of this world funny. Funnier than the thought of David Moyes managing Manchester United.
