???

Pretty keen on muffins and crumpets, but categorically any sane person would surely agree they are not barms (or barmcakes). It would be an unspeakable outrage to call a barm a muffin, (or an American muffin a muffin).

Barmy?
So I've been calling crumpets muffins my entire life. No wonder I've been disappointed in so many breakfast bars.
51 before I learn this ffs.

They're barm cakes in Chorley too. Some folk call 'em baps, but you have to be careful who you say "Is it OK if I just give your baps a squeeze to see how fresh they are ?" to, so I tend to stick to calling 'em barm cakes.

I tend to say the opposite to the ladies behind the counter with a glint in my eye & a cheeky grin, the older the lady the better the response.
The chicken shop is the only place that offers a better opportunity to become Robin Askwith or Sid James.
