Barclays to collect and sell customer data - with no opt out

Pretty much every large company already does this. It is no coincidence that every time I even buy a train ticket online, I get a phone call within two days about a non-existent mis-sold PPI claim.

Every time you are asked to fill out a load of personal details, the company collecting them will sell them on for profit. We are so used to being asked for such details that we no longer seem to question WHY we are being asked to submit them.

My personal favourite jape is to put my email address down as "youdonotneedthis@noneofyourbusiness.com".

I'm sure it's no conincidence that all the adverts I get on websites (including GOT) are directly related to my recent browsing history. And before anyone asks, it is hire cars, train tickets and hotels.

I don't see how that is any different

-it's just so poor though isn't it ? Amazon target me with Rambo boxset dvd's because I bought Theo Angelopoulos box sets a while ago, even though, if they check their Lovefilm company they can use a more slightly more complex algorithm to generate something more suitable to target me with, and also realise I use Blu's when available. TV streaming advertising's well off target for me, and I'm getting well peeved with Dell adverts after buying an ips monitor a couple of months ago, the size of the screen is well off, as is the range level. Maybe it's just me :)

It's by no means new. When the Giro started up ( 1971-72 )The Mammy got a job there and soon after opened me a Girobank Acc. She put in her version of my address ( Huyton near Prescott ??????? well that's mothers for you)
I was getting letters for all sorts until I moved in 1995
