Moyers hardly turned is into some arsenal/barca hybrid though did he

We did get quite a few write ups comparing us to Barca, especially when Baines and Pienaar were in full effect. We obviously lacked a striker under Moyes and we couldn't have asked for any more than Lukaku and we've had more variety in our play because of Barkley, Deulofeu and McGeady coming into the fold.

I think the problem with Moyes is that he took too long over it. He wanted us to painstakingly evolve whereas Martinez has set out his stall from day one and he's prepared to accept some failure along the way.

Stupid thing is their team still has the exact same deficiencies it had four years ago.

I think they've been found out a bit. Most teams sat back and tried not to concede a hatfull whereas Bayern went after them and bullied them. Plus Guardiola left and players such as Valdes, Puyol and possibly Dani Alves are coming to their time there. The replacements are very young in some cases.

We didn't lack a striker (at least not all the time), we lacked a forward-thinking manager who knew what to do with strikers. Or attacking midfielders - he wouldn't have gone, ever, for either playing Barkley, or getting Deulofeu on loan, not to even mention the possibility of Lukaku - he'd be playing for WBA or someone again. Simple explanation - they don't track back enough, we start and finish with defence under Moyes, remember?

He didn't take too long, he didn't want to take ANY risks in doing what he does, then be hailed as one of the greats for getting bummed by any top 4 team and still managing to win the 7th place trophy with plucky little Everton, where (according to him) "you always prepare not to lose, rather than to win".

Also, we got compared to Barcelona... that one game vs. Blackburn. Constantly being touted as a fantastic passing and possession keeping side this year, all year, in nearly every game.

I think that if he'd had another five years or so in the job he would have slowly come out of his shell. I think that he does want to play football the right way but that he's very risk averse. Maybe being at United he'll learn that you have to take chances to win things? If they stick with him he could potentially mould a very attractive side including Rooney, Mata, Van Persie, Januzaj and Kagawa.

Yeah, we were excellent at times under Moyes.

But we never managed it as consistently as we have this year.

We've had the ability but the players weren't given the freedom to express themselves in the past. In the Arsenal game Stones made a short pass to Howard that resulted in Naismith's opener. I can imagine that the young defender could have been banished to the U21 for the remainder of the season under Davey for that.

Tbf he'd have been banished to the U21's around September, for making a wrong long pass or something.

He'd also be a right back.

True. It's interesting that Moyes signed Stones and Naismith though when Martinez tried to take them both to Wigan, given that the too managers have such seemingly different styles of play.
