Baltimore bridge.

It's bonkers to think of the mass those container ships carry about the globe so we can buy tat. Physics in action there - engineers think of, and "investors" build for lateral forces for wind not thousands of tonnes of ship and cargo.

Mossad have moved quickly on this one.
It was only yesterday that the US refused to veto the UN resolution demanding Israel stop the widespread slaughter of civilians in Gaza.

They've just released a picture of the ships captain.

Bridge looks a bit flimsy to me.
Built in the 70s.
Not sure if it has those protective barriers round the supports.
Given these ships don't turn on a sixpence, they are 'slow' and the gap under the bridge is pretty big.
1) Mechanical malfunction
2) Human Error
or
3) somebody did it deliberately

Edit; do these big ships have 'flight recorders'...if you get my drift.

clearly see the ice breaker protectors.
And modern shipping has the journey recorder 'black box' mentioned above.

Chances are it'll be a sudden sustained gust of wind that has forced the boat to drift and they couldn't react in time. Insurance company is going to have a days work.
That suez canal breakdown last year (maybe 2022) still hasn't been resolved.

It looks like the ship had a blackout before it hit. This would have resulted in main engine and steering failure with the resulting allision with one of the bridge piers and the collapse of the bridge. The ship will have a Voyage Data Recorder which will have a record of, amongst other things, engine orders, helm orders, rudder angles, radar pictures and also a sound record of the wheelhouse vocals. The engine room will also have records of all machinery actions.
The ship's Master doesn't physically steer the ship (a common misconception) and there will have been at least one licensed Baltimore pilot giving helm and engine orders (officially called "advising the Master").
There will be questions asked as to why the anchors were't dropped, but I would guess that the ship was going too fast and the time available too short for that too have any effect.
Obviously there's going to be investigations ongoing for months.
