Teams are able to double up on them and cut off there space because they know we have no outlet anywhere else. The passing options for the centre midfielders are piss poor, it's sideways, backwards and always to feet. Both wide players drift inside and come towards the ball so there's no option to "switch the play" and use the full width of the pitch.
Paul Scholes for example, Valencia and to a lesser extent Nani spread out and give him that option for the raking, diagonal pass. We have players who can do it aswell, Heitinga and Arteta. But the option is rarely there, Osman tucks inside, Pienaar does, and Cahill plays very centrally. Frustrating really, certainly for the centre mids, who are, more than not, under pressure when they pick up the ball. You need to create space and give them passing options. As Xavi has said before, he's only as good as teammates movements, or something like that, I've probably got that one completely wrong.
Donovan gave us that when he was here, Anichebe can do it, and I'm sure Coleman could aswell, but Osman? Get a grip.
