I think he still lacks confidence at international level, his ability is not in question he IS good enough for England. I agree. The stats don't lie and he has been one of the best in his position in Europe for a couple of seasons, albeit partly due to our over-reliance on him as a left back to make up for some other deficiencies in the team.

He has the look of a man who knows he is the understudy. It is probably not in his nature, but I want to see him get on that pitch in an England shirt and show some belief, even a bit of arrogance, that he is good enough and deserves his place ahead of whoever might be challenging for his position. I wonder how much the World Cup snub set him back in that regard.
